Matthew is the son of Lisa and District Attorney Scott Reilly of Hickory, N.C. He was raised in both Hickory and Charlotte. He spent five years in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer serving in South Korea and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He won several awards including one for saving the life of a fellow soldier. He was active in the National Guard and attending Appalachian State University at the time of his death.
Matthew enjoyed his family, friends, volunteering, riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Hi Rollers of Charlotte. He loved to volunteer for ROTC, Hope For All Dogs Rescue, hiking, flying, kayaking, fishing in Alaska and lived his life to the fullest. Matthew was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident on Memorial Day 2017 and donated his organs through Sharing Hope of N.C. He is buried in Conover, N.C.
A scholarship for ROTC students is being set up in his name.
